Jalen Carter is charged with racing in a fatal crash
Jalen Carter, a defensive tackle from Georgia who is predicted to be one of the top players in the upcoming NFL draft, has been accused of reckless driving and racing.
It is in connection with a car accident that resulted in the deaths of offensive lineman Devin Willock and a member of the recruiting staff.
An arrest warrant has been issued by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, stating that Carter was racing his 2021 Jeep Trackhawk against the 2021 Ford Expedition driven by Chandler LeCroy, the recruiting staffer who was killed in the crash.
Despite being scheduled to attend the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis on Wednesday, Carter is expected to return to Athens to address the arrest warrant, according to Lt. Shaun Barnett of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
In an e-mail to the AP, Barnett said:
“It is my understanding that Mr. Carter is making arrangements to turn himself in.”

The accident resulted in the death of two people
The car accident that Jalen Carter has been charged for occurred in downtown Athens on January 15, 2023. It tragically resulted in the death of Chandler Louise LeCroy, a University of Georgia staff member, and Devin Alex Willock, a football player.
The accident took place after the Bulldogs celebrated their second consecutive national championship. Police believe that LeCroy was involved in street racing with another driver, Carter, who was driving a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk.
LeCroy, who was driving a 2021 Ford Expedition and had a blood alcohol content of 0.197, more than twice the legal limit, failed to make a proper turn at a high speed and crashed into two poles and trees before stopping against the door of an apartment building.
Willock, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the car, and two other passengers, Warran McClendon, and Victoria Bowles were injured.
Both cars were estimated to have traveled at more than 100 mph, and LeCroy’s speedometer showed she was driving at 83 mph when it broke during the accident. It was a tragic incident.
