Netflix has an impressive list of docuseries and will be adding a new one in March. The Ryan Murphy produced The Andy Warhol Diaries is coming next month to the streamer.
Fans of the eccentric artist Andy Warhol are very excited to see his story come to life in this series. Warhol’s diaries were published posthumously by his friend and collaborator Pat Hackett. In the fall of 1976, each weekday morning, Warhol and Hackett talked via phone as he would chronicle the previous day’s events in his life. The IRS audited Warhol annually, and these diary entries supplemented any records they would need for the audits.
In 1989, Hackett published The Andy Warhol Diaries with entries that began Nov. 24, 1976, and ended on Feb. 17, 1987, five days before his death. This publication is the source material used by Murphy and director Andrew Rossi to create this deep dive into the life of the artist, film director, and leading figure in the pop art movement, Andy Warhol.
The Andy Warhol Diaries release date
Netflix will release The Andy Warhol Diaries on March 9 during the usual 12:01 a.m. PT and 3:01 a.m. ET time slot. Fans of the artist will no doubt stay up to binge this series.
The documentary’s only cast are the people who knew Warhol well and were interviewed for the series. This includes Rob Lowe, Julian Schnabel, John Waters, Fab Five Freddy, Jerry Hall, Debbie Harry, and others.
Warhol’s voice for the series has been recreated by an AI program, with permission from The Andy Warhol Foundation.
The series is a six-part intimate look into the life of Warhol from his own words. From his childhood in Pittsburgh to his journey through many mediums as an artist, his love life, fashion, and many other aspects of this man’s life.
