Matthew McConaughey, no stranger to being labeled as slightly eccentric, announced he plans on continuing his relationship with car manufacturer Lincoln for at least a few more years. There are probably lots of wacky commercials to come. The 46-year-old actor was a surprise guest at the New York International Auto Show yesterday, introducing the new incarnation of Lincoln’s best known vehicle, the Navigator. Of course, Matthew brought his lovely wife, Camila Alves, to the Big Apple with him. Refreshingly, they were dressed just like anyone else trying to be comfortable for a flight.
Matthew, who has starred in a series of ads for the car company since 2014 (in his latest he debates whether to go for tacos, Thai or sushi with his BBQ loving dogs), said that he was “happy to be part of Lincoln’s growth.” He added “Going forward, it looks like we are going to continue that relationship for a few more years.” I can only hope that means more awesome ad parodies, like the ones Jim Carrey did on an episode of Saturday Night Live back in 2014.
I am not a fan of SUVs and this one is certainly not changing my opinion. Mind you, my little Camaro has been hit twice in the past two years by SUVs, so there may be an extra personal bias here. The gull wing doors make the Back to the Future geek in me happy but, as is the case in “concept cars” like the one Matthew presented, won’t be a feature in the actual production vehicle which will be available next year. So, without those doors, does anyone else think this new Navigator looks a little bit like a hearse?
